55. Ar-Rahman (The Beneficent): 5-13
The sun and the moon follow their calculated courses. The plants and the trees submit to His designs. He has raised up the sky. He has set the balance. So that you may not exceed in the balance: Weigh with justice and do not fall short in the balance. He set down the Earth for His creatures, with its fruits, its palm trees with sheathed clusters, its husked grain, its fragrant plants. Which, then, of your Lord’s blessings do you both deny? (Abdul Haleem)
The sun and the moon [move] by precise calculation, And the stars and trees prostrate. And the heaven He raised and imposed the balance That you not transgress within the balance. And establish weight in justice and do not make deficient the balance. And the earth He laid [out] for the creatures. Therein is fruit and palm trees having sheaths [of dates] And grain having husks and scented plants. So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? (Saheeh International)
The sun and the moon follow courses (exactly) computed; And the herbs and the trees - both (alike) prostrate in adoration. And the Firmament has He raised high, and He has set up the Balance (of Justice), In order that ye may not transgress (due) balance. So establish weight with justice and fall not short in the balance. It is He Who has spread out the earth for (His) creatures: Therein is fruit and date-palms, producing spathes (enclosing dates); Also corn, with (its) leaves and stalk for fodder, and sweet-smelling plants. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny? (Yusuf Ali)
[At His behest] the sun and the moon run their appointed courses; [before Him] prostrate themselves the stars and the trees. And the skies has He raised high, and has devised [for all things] a measure, so that you [too, O men,] might never transgress the measure [of what is right): weigh, therefore, [your deed] with equity, and cut not the measure short! And the earth has He spread out for all living beings, with fruit thereon, and palm trees with sheathed clusters [of dates], and grain growing tall on its stalks, and sweetsmelling plants. Which, then, of your Sustainer's powers can you disavow? (Muhammad Asad)
The sun and the moon ˹travel˺ with precision. The stars and the trees bow down ˹in submission˺. As for the sky, He raised it ˹high˺, and set the balance ˹of justice˺ so that you do not defraud the scales. Weigh with justice, and do not give short measure. He laid out the earth for all beings. In it are fruit, palm trees with date stalks, and grain with husks, and aromatic plants. Then which of your Lord’s favours will you ˹humans and jinn˺ both deny? (Mustafa Khattab)
The sun and moon revolve to a computation; And the grasses and the trees bow (to Him) in adoration. He raised the sky and set the Balance So that none may err against the scales, And observe correct measure, weigh with justice, and not cheat the balance. He positioned the earth for all the creatures: There are fruits of all kinds on it, and date-palms with their clusters sheathed, Grain with husk, and fragrant grasses. How many favours of your Lord will then both of you deny? (Ahmed Ali)
The sun and the moon run by a mathematical design. [Such are the changeless Divine Laws] The stars and the trees all adore Him (and follow His Laws). The sky (atmosphere) He has raised high, and He has kept perfect balance in the Universe. So that you too, never violate balance in your lives. Therefore, establish balance in the society in absolute justice. And never belittle the Scale of Justice (in all your transactions, even with your own 'self'.) And (know that) He has spread out the earth for all His creatures. [Anaam = All living beings] Wherein are fruit and palms with clusters protected in sheaths. And grain, corn, leaves, stalks, colorful herbs, vegetables, spices, sweet- smelling plants and fragrant flowers. [The three Arabic terms used in this verse include all the meanings rendered] Then, O Men and women! Which authority of your Lord will you deny? (Shabbir Ahmed)
