Earth is a place of abode for all creatures that Allah has placed on our shared planet. Making the earth a dwelling place for man God ensured that man’s needs could be provided by the earth. Man has the right to use the earth, the animals, and the minerals to help him in his habitation on earth. However, with this right comes the responsibility of manifesting the qualities of the Creator, which have been placed in man’s primordial nature (fitra), the primary ones being Mercy and Justice. In the provided selection the Qur’an sets out complete spiritual and moral guidelines for man such as walking humbly, not be wasteful or extravagant, not to disrupt the balance that God stationed in nature and not to change the creation of God. Only through ignoring enlisted commandments and favoring their opposites, led us all to our common tragedy, environmental crisis. Human corruption is directly linked to environmental pollution and exploitation not only due to predominance of materialistic views, but also because of the human moral corruption in general that eventually led to environmental pollution. To live in such a manner throws creation out of balance, and this can only have serious repercussions for the world in which we live. To combat this attitude Green Muslims provides you this selection so that we, altogether are able to properly address environmental degradation and work toward purification of our souls and bodies.
